Description

These legendary creatures creep their way slowly along the damp canyon valleys of isolated Japanese mountain ranges. The "water" in their bowl-like heads is actually a viscus serum not dissimilar to human cerebra-spinal fluid that when spilled can temporarily reduce the creature's intellect.
The serum is highly prized for its numerous mystical properties, but rather than rendering the Kappa immobile as legend suggests, too much drained fluid will cause the Kappa to go feral and violently assault any nearby humans. Afterwards the creature will always flee to a safe place where it can regenerate.
Immobile Kappas with a full store of fluid are amongst the wisest creatures on Earth. Stories tell of specimens sitting in meditation for decades as they fixate on perfecting their thoughts and inner peace.
However, any movement on behalf of the Kappa is sure to reduce its intelligence by spilling precious fluid, and any running or fighting will leave the creature a hollow shell of low animal instinct.

Fighting a Kappa is a careful balance of either combating a slow moving creature of immeasurable cunning or a quick predator of savage rage.
Be constantly aware of how much fluid you spill while dealing with the creature or you may find that it is either too smart or too violent than you bargained for at any given moment.
